CNN is reporting that "Ten Commandments" Judge Roy Moore has lost his Primary Bid for Governor of Alabama. Incumbent Bob Riley defeated the Moore's challenge:
NEW YORK (AP) -- Alabama Gov. Bob Riley easily beat back a Republican primary challenge from Roy Moore, the former judge who tried to put a Ten Commandments monument in his courthouse, while Democratic former Gov. Don Siegelman trailed in his comeback fight against the state's first female lieutenant governor.
ABC has a similar report:
Jun 6, 2006 (AP)-- Early returns showed Alabama Gov. Bob Riley leading GOP challenger Roy Moore, the former judge who tried to put a Ten Commandments monument in his courthouse, as eight states held primaries Tuesday for governor, House or Senate.
Rut Ruh Roy...Looks like that monument turned into an anchor. Glad to see the citizens of Alabama have the good sense to turn out nutjobs like Moore.
Update [2006-6-7 1:24:38 by Da Buddy]: OK, maybe I was a little hasty with my congratulations to Alabama voters. It seems they DID approve a Constitutional Amendment opposing gay marriage. This from CNN's Inside Politics:
Alabama voters on Tuesday backed a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and chose Republican Gov. Bob Riley over former Chief Justice Roy Moore.
